Syllabus: 

Indexing: Inverted files and inverted lists, text compression, other types of indexes. Modeling: IR models, classic IR models, alternative algebraic models, alternative probabilistic models, inference networks. Recovery Assessment: Accuracy and recall, reference collections. Queries: Logical queries, queries ordered by relevance, vocabulary access structures, sequential search in the vocabulary, exact and approximate search. Information Systems for the Web: Search engines, indexing, queries, interfaces. Folksonomies and social media recovery strategies.
